Element HS | Junior BOM

Hey guys!

This past Saturday, the Junior class went out for Junior BOM!!!  This was an alternative to Junior Prom that was going on at Alameda High.  We had a blast, so let me tell you about it!

First, we drove down to Santa Cruz and started a firepit on the beach!  The weather was fantastic!  We had delicious food cooked over the fire and sang some songs.  Unfortunately, the beach closed at 10PM and we had to leave.

We headed over to Jon and Carol's place nearby.  They were Element staff last year and it was awesome getting to reunite with them this weekend.  They graciously hosted us for the evening and the next day!  We stayed up eating more food, playing board games, and hanging out!  We woke up to the delicious smell of bacon cooking and had a splendid breakfast in the Chou's backyard!

After this, the girls and the guys split up!  The guys went to Santa Clara for some action-packed paintballing and the girls went to San Francisco for a nice time drinking fancy tea and getting to know each other.  Both parties had a blast!

We joined up again in the evening at Ben and Helen's place for some KOREAN BARBECUE!!!  After dinner, we ended the night with a movie: Edge of Tomorrow.  It was intense, action-packed, and a great way to end our Junior BOM!

Hope y'all at prom had a good and safe time too!

Element HS | Last Friday Night

Hey y'all!

Hope you guys had an awesome week!  I'm always thankful for the weekend because it's something to look forward to when my week doesn't go so well.  And Friday night at Element always boosts my mood!

Yesterday, we gathered together at the High School room for dinner and a message.  Dinner was delicious, as always!  We had pesto chicken pasta and some salad.  Ben gave a message on Jacob at the River Jabbok and how he wrestled with God.  I love this story so I'll give you a brief summary!

Jacob means Usurper or Grasper in the Hebrew language and he was named this because he was born grasping the foot of his twin brother!  And it also seems to describe his life story.  From stealing his older brother's birthright to deceiving his father to manipulating his uncle, Jacob always strove to get the best, even if it meant pushing and hurting people along the way.  It was at the River Jabbok that God confronts Jacob and he is finally able to surrender his will and become a blessing to others.  Jacob's life is very relatable as we find everyone around us striving and fighting to be the best.

After the message, we headed to SAN FRANCISCO for some tasty ice cream and a nice walk in the city.  The cool night air was refreshing and company was awesome!

Hope you can join us next time!

P.S.  You may have noticed that most of the Juniors weren't at Element last night.  It was because they were at Junior BOM, our Prom alternative!  Stay tuned for an update on that!

Element HS Fall Welcome Night

This past Friday we kicked off the fall semester with our annual Element Fall Welcome Night!

We opened up the night with a skit exploring the theme of identity, and how people wear masks to fit in with different people and situations. After that, our student-led band performed the special song "This is Home" by Switchfoot, which describes how we can only find true acceptance and belonging with God.

Afterwards, Ben gave a message on the healing of the invalid at the Pool of Bethesda.

Then we grouped up by class and played a rousing group game of The Price is Right, with hilarious results--especially when we played guys vs. girls. After that, we spent the rest of the night eating snacks, playing boardgames/volleyball/ping-pong, and doing some serious dancing at our music video booth!

Here are some pics of the night:

"TOO MUCH $$$!"

We had an abundance of props for our music video booth--so many that people weren't sure what to do with all of them! Most of the dances ended up looking like a clash of civilizations...
